Started with a Hobby, Now we’re here!

Keeler Crafts began as a natural progression to using crafting as a method of relaxation. My family and friends have be inundated with gifts and I’m running out of room at my house. I have no intention of slowing down on crafting since it brings me joy, so here we are.

Made with Love…and dog hair

My name is Keely and I like to craft! I’ve always been pretty handy with artistic related things. Everything was doodled on, I got into an anime drawing phase there for a while, and decided to teach myself how to knit. Arts and crafts kind of took a backburner for a long time, but came back with in 2018 with painting. I don’t remember the catalyst, but with painting came drawing, and then knitting made an appearance. From there, I realized I didn’t actually like knitting that much, and 3 YouTube videos later, I was crocheting.

When the Pandemic hit, I had even more time to put towards my arts and crafts hobbies, so I began crocheting a king size blanket and painting pet portraits for my family and friends. The crocheting was a bit slow to start while I was hyper-focusing on all the paintings I queued up, and then the dopamine ran out on painting. I frogged the king size blanket, made two last minute throws for Christmas gifts, decided to jump right into making a bubble stitch cardigan, and then a giant cat face for my nephew to use as a tummy time mat (its now used as a landing pad for his jungle gym, so yay for longevity).

From there, I crocheted 4 more blankets, 10 or so hats, and my favorite Christmas gifts to date, 12 oversized sweaters for my extended family. It was amazing and I love getting pictures whenever they wear them. After I finished the final one, my next thought was to crochet a dress for myself, but then I got bit by the sewing bug. Luckily my sister had an old machine she wasn’t using, so I jumped right in and made my husband a collared shirt. As with all my new hobbies, I skip over doing beginners projects and go straight for whatever I want to make. I think the best way to learn is by upping the ante on the consequences of failure. I’ve never found something that I can’t do enough to get by, its not going to be pretty the first try but it’ll be functional.

So here we are, I’m going to try and create whatever floats my fancy and I want to take you all on this journey with me. Crocheting bags, accessories, or garments, or sewing the same. Expanding my machine embroidery skills, and learning how to hand embroider and bead. I’ve got a lot of ideas and a lot of fabric and yarn at my disposal. Wish me luck!
